This still life was representative of the scene in pubs across Ireland especially those frequented by the working classes. The bottle of Guinness and the 20 pack of John Players were synonymous with many elderly drinkers. The packs of John Players have been banished from pubs (thankfully!) and the bottle of Guinness is a rare site.
